It has been more than half a month since Obama won the election, but I found the following noteworthy. I am not sure if anyone else has noticed this.
Watch the Obama and McCain concession speeches. Listen not to the speeches, but to the music. Realise that their choices were pregnant with symbolism.
McCain took and left the stage to the main themes of Days of Thunder and Crimson Tide. The former is an anthem amongst NASCAR fans in the reddest states of the deep south. And the latter? In Crimson Tide, a young black lieutenant usurps his white captain in the midst of a nuclear missle crisis, and takes command of their strategic missle submarine. (The captain does, however, seek reconciliation after the crisis, and formally relinquishes his command to the lieutenant.)
On the other hand, Obama ended his speech with music from Remember the Titans - a cookie-cutter sports film by Disney about a black coach who brought a Virginian highschool football team together by ridding them of their racially motivated conflicts.
