Kurt Vonnegut
speaks to me like no other. His prose is clean and modest, and always unassuming. He dances gaily on the keen edge of satire, always laughing; always apologising for his laughter, and laughing at his apologies. His self-deprecation comes not at his own expense, but at humanity's; he mocks humanity, yet he bears its mantle with eagerness. When I read the words that he has for us, I cannot help but cry or laugh out loud.
He was no mere author. He was, and remains an ambassador of our condition to our lonely heart of hearts. God bless you, Mr. Vonnegut.
